Will Cairo’s New Grand Egyptian Museum have its Opening in November, 2022?
Since the fall of 2021, different authorities in Egypt have been announcing that the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), Cairo’s ambitious new gargantuan archaeological museum, will be opening in November of 2022. The GEM has already been delayed numerous times, and it seems like the museum is still not on track to be ready in time for the fall. Will it really open in November? Here’s what I think, based on what we know so far.
COVID UPDATE: Egypt drops Covid-19 entry requirements: no vaccine, PCR, or antigen test required!
On 16 June, 2022, Egypt officially dropped ALL Covid-19 entry requirements in order to travel to Egypt. This means that for all nationalities, passport holders, and foreigners, no one needs to worry about having a proof of vaccination or a PCR or rapid antigen test in order to enter Egypt.
USA drops negative Covid-19 test requirement to return from Egypt!
Travelers leaving Egypt and heading to the United States will NO LONGER need to get a negative Covid-19 test prior to travel. The Grand Egyptian Museum, Cairo’s new museum: construction complete by the end of September, hopefully open in November, 2022!
According to various news outlets, the GEM’s exterior will be completed by June 30, 2022, and the interior of the museum finished on or before September 30, 2022. This means we are one step closer to hearing the announcement of the museum’s official opening date, hopefully in November 2022!

While the GEM is still on track to open in November, 2022, we still do not know a lot about the opening.
