COVID UPDATE: Egypt drops Covid-19 entry requirements: no vaccine, PCR, or antigen test required!

Travelers to Egypt used to have to show either a proof of negative Covid-19 test, or a proof of vaccination against Covid-19. Now, as of late June, neither is needed to enter Egypt.

On 16 June, 2022, Egypt officially dropped ALL Covid-19 entry requirements in order to travel to Egypt! This means that for all nationalities, passport holders, and foreigners, no one needs to worry about having a proof of vaccination or a PCR or rapid antigen test in order to enter Egypt!

The announcement came from the Egyptian Cabinet, after consulting with the Supreme Committee for the Management of Pandemics. It was a relatively quiet announcement; there was no post about it on the social media for either the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities or the Ministry of Health and Population, but it has been verified time and again by travelers entering Egypt in late June and early July—they are no longer checking any Covid-19 paperwork to enter Egypt.

The only thing U.S. American and European tourists will need to enter Egypt is their passport, and $25 USD cash in order to buy a visa upon arrival (more on that here).

Do I need any vaccinations or insurance to go to Egypt?

US American, Canadian, British, European, and Australian travelers heading to Egypt do not need to have any vaccinations in order to travel to Egypt, or travel within Egypt. Some nationalities may need proof of vaccinations, so it is always a good idea to double-check with your embassy in Egypt to make sure your country does not have any specific requirements if you are not coming from the US or Europe.

There is also no insurance requirement to travel to or within Egypt, as this was dropped over one year ago.

This decision makes travel to Egypt even easier, since travelers heading back to the USA after being in Egypt now no longer need to get a Covid-19 PCR or rapid antigen test in order to return to the United States.
